There has never been a better time to visit the Louisville Zoo! You can say G' Day Mate! to the koalas in the new Australia exhibit, and very soon you'll be able to meet to brand new tiger cub born just last month.

The new member of the Sumatran Tiger family was born July 23rd to proud parents, Jingga, a 14-year-old female, and Kami Sambal, a 16-year-old male. The first born at the facility in 20 years! Still too young to be out and about in The Islands area of the zoo just yet, but you can watch the Live Cub Cam for some "awwww" inducing cuteness.

One of my favorite things about  Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoos is the conservation work done to preserve and grow animal populations. So many different species are becoming vulnerable and endangered due to loss of habitat or poaching, but with trained professionals, these animals can reproduce in a safe and healthy environment to thrive for years to come.

The tiger family isn't the only one welcoming a bouncing bundle of joy. Zoo officials just announced another new member of the crew:

On Friday, August 9 the Louisville Zoo welcomed our first giraffe calf since 2012! The calf was born to 7-year-old female, Kianga and 8-year-old male, Baridi, around 10 a.m. weighing 160 pounds and standing at 6’2”. He is currently thriving under the care of our animal care team. Our Masai giraffes are managed through a Species Survival Plan (SSP) by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to maintain genetic diversity.

You can watch mama Kianga and baby boy bond on the Louisville Zoo webcam here. Or news station WLKY has this feed recording for the most adorable lanky baby giraffe action. Still so tiny, but he will shoot up bigger than his mama in no time. Oh, they grow up so fast, don't they?
