Indoor Theme Parks Are Kentucky’s Winter Solution

Here in Owensboro, we know a thing or two about playgrounds. After all, our Lazy Dayz Playground downtown in Smothers Park was named among the best playgrounds in the world back in 2015.

But Lazy Days will see little action in the next few months; winter tends to put the kibosh on outdoor activities, or haven't you heard? Soon, however, Owensboro will get in on the "massive indoor playground" game with the arrival of Malibu Jack's in the former Towne Square Mall.

But if you want a preview, there are already thriving Malibu Jack's location across the Commonwealth, in Ashland, Elizabethtown, Lexington, and Louisville.

That was a pretty heavy focus on the Malibu Jack's arcade games, and that's quite a selection. I gotta tell ya, I am a huge fan of those kinds of arcade games, and I haven't been a kid in more than four decades. Here's an overview of Twist 'n' Shout, one of the entertainment complex's most popular attractions. This is Lexington's Malibu Jack's:

The one in Ashland was built inside a dead mall, and it makes me feel weird. A friend of mine used to live in Ashland WAY back in the day, and that mall was very much ALIVE at the time.

With the former Towne Square Mall offering 109,000 square feet of space. The Owensboro Malibu Jack's will become Kentucky's third-largest of all locations, including those in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Texas.

A target date for the opening has yet to be announced.
