"Country music has enough songs about drinking and heartbreak. I make songs about pizza."

That was the rather unexpected, but hilarious handwritten note on the back of a postcard I received last week. The postcard was from a singer/songwriter who calls himself Marty the Pizza Guy.  I didn't have this on my 2026 "Random Things I'll Get in the Mail" Bingo card, but okay, Marty! You had me at pizza.

The timing of Marty's postcard could not have been more perfect. In my hometown, this week happens to mark the start of the 2nd Annual Owensboro Pizza Week and our colleagues at Owensboro Times have once again wrangled up dozens of local restaurants to compete in two categories - pizza and 'outside of the box.'

Marty's postcard intrigued me. Look! I am a huge fan of pizza. If I were devoid of willpower, I would have it for each meal of the day. On this site, I routinely share stories about my favorite pizzas on the planet. Here's a prime example.

So, imagine my surprise to learn that there's a guy named Marty, who seems to love pizza so much that he writes, records, and releases songs about it.

I checked out his website - MartythePizzaGuy.com - and learned that he's no one-hit pizza wonder. Marty has a growing library of songs about pies.

Here's our exclusive interview with Marty about how this all started.

Plus, here are some fun samples of Marty's pizza-infused music. Here's "There's Still Pizza", a song about getting fired from your job and realizing that pizza may be all you have left.

Move over, Little Big Town, here's his weekend 'pontoon' party classic - "Pizza on the Lake."

Then, there's a tribute to Friday - the ultimate pizza night.

The postcard Marty sent pretty much summed up this whole listening experience. He said, "Try a slice . . . you might just like it."

Marty's songs may be 'cheesy,' but I think he's a blast. In addition to songs about pizza, Marty has written several 'pizza' books and he showcases pizza restaurants on his Instagram page @pizzaguykc.

In his words, "Regardless of what people think, it brings together two things I love: music and pizza. If I can make a few people smile along the way, and make them a little hungry too, I've done my job."

Consider me a Marty fan and pass the Parmesan!
