I think we are all aware by now that the recent weather events, including tornadoes and record-breaking flooding, have devastated parts of Western Kentucky. Some of the heaviest hit in our area include our neighbors in McLean County.

After what has felt like an eternity, the flood waters are finally starting to recede. My friend Emily Epley reached out to me this morning and asked if I could share what the current needs are now that folks are assessing the situation and making clean-up plans. I'm so glad she did because, like many of you, my heart has been heavy for my friends there. I just wasn't sure where to start to try to help.

2025 Flood Waters Begin Receding

Another friend, Serenity Rager, explained that it is hard to know everything people need until they can gain full access to their property. "Tons of homes have lost absolutely everything. I'd say most important right now is totes and bags, the water has FINALLY begun to drop, and hopefully everyone can figure out what's needed within the week."

Easter Baskets For Kids in McLean County

Since we're so close to Easter, a woman named Tori Hill is making sure children will still receive special goodies for the holiday. "I just want to help the children in our county. No kid deserves to go without for Easter, and it's my mission to make sure all the kids have something this year."

If you want to help kids in the area by donating candy or little plushies, Tori already has baskets, grass, and eggs to put them in. You can drop them off in Island at 255 West Main Street Apartment B, 42350, or call her at (270) 757-8593.

McLean County Strong

With at least 50% of the county having been underwater, this is going to be a long haul recovering from the damage. If there is one thing I know about McLean County and Western Kentucky, we will come together for our neighbors in need. Please do what you can to help the community rebuild. Hang in there, friends. Lots of love and support coming your way.
