MOD Pizza in Owensboro Closes for Good
We were tipped off to this development by a conversation on the Owensboro Chat Facebook page. Here's a partial quote...
We’re all shocked and saddened to be split up as we all respect and love each other’s company, sales were up, labor was up, and general guests satisfaction was up.
If you happen to be in the area today and want to see for yourself, you'll see a sign on the door that reads...
MOD Pizza Owensboro would like to thank our customers for their patronage. However, this location is permanently closed. Thank you again for your local business.
MOD Pizza Store Closures
Trouble was perhaps on the horizon two years ago when it was reported that MOD Pizza was preparing to file for bankruptcy. In early 2024, the Seattle-based company closed 26 of its locations across 11 states due to underperformance, and it did so in just one month's time. The Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, however, never came to pass. Instead, by the time that number had ballooned to 44 closures, the fast casual pizza chain was acquired by the Los Angeles-based Elite Restaurant Group, a company that specializes in taking over troubled brands.
MOD Pizza ("MOD" stands for "made on demand"), with its fresh ingredients; in-house made sauce and pressed dough; and a business model that charged by size, not per topping, opened in Owensboro on Valentine's Day in 2017.
