Study Shows This Is the Most Affordable Place to Live in Kentucky
Do you have a great big New Year's resolution that goes like this? "We're moving in 2025." I'm unsure if a decision like that falls under the heading of "resolution," but if you're making that call now, that's the label I'm giving it.
Okay, so...next stop. Are you moving to another town? If so, where and how did you arrive at your decision? If not, might I suggest a quaint and comfy western Kentucky county that has been deemed the most affordable place to live in Kentucky
Butler County -- the Most Affordable Place to Live in KY
Any journey that takes me down Interstate 165 to Bowling Green and then points beyond almost always includes a stop in Butler County. My go-to pitstops are all there, but that's not a reason to pick it as a destination if you plan to relocate. No, there are very GOOD reasons, beginning with the big one -- cost of living. 24/7 Wall Street has the numbers--compared to the national AND state average:
- Est. cost of living in county: 19.0% less expensive than US avg.
- Est. cost of living in state: 10.6% less expensive than US avg.
In 2024, cost of living is a term swirling through most people's minds as we continue to see head-scratching price tags on some of the most common items we purchase month in and month out. Median household income and median home value--although both are below the national mean--are also attractive when you factor in the aforementioned COL numbers:
- Median household income: $47,589 ($60,183 statewide)
- Median home value: $102,200 ($177,000 statewide)
If it's small-town life you crave, you could do MUCH worse than settling in Butler County. Situated on the Green River, the county and its seat of Morganfield also offer plenty to do throughout the calendar--the Harvest on the Square Festival, the Green River Museum, the Green River Catfish Festival (uh oh, now I'm hungry and I'm not even hungry), the Summer Social, Holiday Hoopla, and so much more.
Plus, its convenient distance from Bowling Green is also attractive.
And so, if you're looking for the county in Kentucky that, according to 24/7 Wall Street, will do the most favors for your bottom line, look to Butler County.
Yes, (and I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist) the "Butler" did it.
