What a difference a year can make in someone's life. That is certainly true of Kyle Joiner from Owensboro, Kentucky.  In May of 2021, he graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School. Shortly after that, he joined the U.S. Navy. Now, he's setting his sights on something even more ambitious.

Joiner is currently studying at the Naval Education and Training Command, where he is learning to be a "highly skilled, operational, and combat-ready warfighter." Specifically, he's learning how to become a fire controlman.

One he completes that curriculum, he will be responsible for operating advanced combat weapons systems. That's impressive and, with his enrollment at NETC, he's certainly on the fast track to incredibly military success and is certainly making his family and community proud.

Kyle has a long family tradition of military allegiance.  He says, "I joined the Navy to continue a family tradition of military service stretching back to the French and Indian War." Ultimately, his goals are pretty simple. He wants to serve the United States of America and make a name for himself in the ranks of the U.S. military.

Kyle credits life here in Owensboro with teaching him valuable principles he's now utilizing in his training with the U.S. Navy.  He says, “The number one lesson I took from home is to always look out for those around you, and they will do the same."  Well, he certainly has a lot of people around him. The NETC provides advanced, specialized training to roughly 7500 sailors per year and Kyle's among the 2022 class.

The U.S. Navy has a storied and rich 245-year history of protecting and preserving the freedom of seas and defending the American way of life.  Kyle Joiner of Owensboro is now part of that ongoing mission.
