On Monday, July 29th, the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department will host a benefit blood drive for 11-year-old Braxton Rhodes. The Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center will be on hand from 11am to 5pm welcoming donors. Those donors will help raise money for the Rhodes family and they'll also be helping save the lives of future accident victims who need blood that the center cultivates and provides.

Braxton found himself in that situation earlier this month. The second week of July he was involved an serious ATV accident and had to be flown to Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville. He's currently being treated for a variety of injuries (a broken femur, lacerations, several other fractured bones and more) and the community of Whitesville has rallied behind Braxton and his family.

WKRBC has heard that rally cry as well. That's precisely why they've teamed up with the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department for the Monday drive. Here's how it will work.

For each successful blood donation the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center receives Monday, July 29th, it will contribute $10 to assist Braxton's family with his medical expenses. The brand new bloodmobile will be on site for the drive.

WKRBC's Vicki Ellis says, "Braxton's life was saved by blood donations and the excellent care he received from emergency responders." This drive will pay that forward. Your blood donation helps ensure that blood is available to the eleven medical facilities in western Kentucky that are supplied by the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center.
