Something New Is Taking Over the Old Mikato Location
It's been a while since Owensboro had a second Asian buffet, but I remember it. It was on Highway 54, and, if I remember correctly, it was where Tractor Supply is now. Things have changed so much out there that it's hard to remember where defunct businesses once were.
But if I'm wrong, I'm not far off. I do not, however, remember its name; it's been gone a good while, leaving New China on South Frederica to hold down the fort regarding Asian Buffets.
Mikato Closure
A few months ago, to many people's surprise, Mikato Steak and Sushi announced it would be closing. On January 5th, the restaurant posted this on Facebook.
Of course, we wish the family all the best in their future endeavors.
East 88 Buffet Moves Into the Mikato Location
If you live on Daviess County's east side, love Asian flavors, and were not looking forward to life without them on your end of town, then you are in luck. A sign has appeared in the window announcing the arrival of a brand new hibachi and sushi buffet.
And these fixtures were out on the sidewalk when I arrived, free of charge to anyone who can use them.
The signage might indicate that it's part of a larger chain, but Google searches to that effect turned up nothing. But that's good; the more local businesses, the better. There is an 88 Buffet in Huntsville, Alabama, and it also serves an Asian menu. But there is no connection to the new East 88 Buffet, opening soon next to Toad Hop on Highway 54.
