When I was a kid, we didn't have computers or cell phones. Like many people my age, I burned hours and hours of my childhood on a bicycle. I can't even give you an estimate of how many hours a day my friends and I rode our bikes. But I used to burn up Old Highway 144 and Highway 1389 out past Thruston.

My appreciation for bikes was rekindled some 35 years later, when Jaclyn Graves and I jumped on road bikes and cycled from Memphis to Owensboro for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Now, I have done some CRAZY stuff in my life. But, that 300-mile adventure, aboard a bike . . . riding for charity, was the most grueling, yet most rewarding thing I have ever done.

This may sound corny, but it's true. There's something exhilarating and freeing about riding with the wind. You experience and appreciate your surroundings differently when you're riding a bike. Maybe it's the marriage of nature's beauty and the exertion you used to pedal through it. Maybe it's the combo of the speed and the breeze. Maybe it's the challenge, the heart rate, the breathlessness. Whatever it is, at the age of 47, I'm ready to buy another bike. I'm ready to go riding . . . on and off road.

I stopped by Be Real Sports Cycling and Fitness a couple of days ago to check out the inventory. Larry Myles and his staff take great pride in knowing that they truly offer a bike for everyone — from the casual "Greenbelt" rider to the guy or gal who goes out on the weekend and knocks down a hundred miles.

Be Real Sports stocks Townies, fitness bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes and gravel bikes. Gravel, by the way, is the fastest growing discipline in the world of cycling and Be Real is helping to lead the charge with an "All Things Gravel" Expo and by organizing "Let's Ride Gravel" group rides.

Be Real Sports Cycling and Fitness proudly claims the title of Daviess County's official Trek retailer and the Trek line is incredible. In fact, Trek has "the world's best bikes and cycling gear."

Take a look!  Here's what I'm talking about . . .

Larry says this bike is the most popular bike Be Real sells. And I'm not going to lie.  It's kinda calling my name. It is SHARP! It's making me miss those countless miles I churned and burned on Old Highway 144 and 1389.

In addition to a full line of bikes, Be Real has a complete line of cycling accessories from apparel, bibs, lights, hydration, bottle cages, seat cushions and handlebar wraps. Trust me, after spending 300 miles on a bike in the span of four days, I learned to appreciate the need for a little extra padding on the seat and the bars.

And, of course, one of the most important pieces of safety equipment you can own is a helmet. And Be Real stocks all kind of styles and colors to choose from.

And I need to remind you that Be Real Sports Cycling and Fitness is an authorized Oakley dealer and they have an expert service department with three decades combined experience.

If you've been thinking about buying a new bike, I highly recommend you stop by Be Real Sports Cycling and Fitness. In addition to getting lifetime shifting and braking service if you buy from Be Real, owner Larry Myles knows the sport of cycling inside and out and he can help you choose the bike that's not just right for you, but perfect for you.

A recent customer left this feedback on Facebook and it perfectly sums up the Be Real experience:

We have been looking for several months for a good bike for our son that would last. Within 30 minutes of going into the store my husband was willing to spend the money necessary, after the wealth of information Larry had and the great work in detail he did to find our son the exact one he wanted! Would never go anywhere else great service great people great products. Honest, to the point and very detailed.  Thank you so much.

When you walk into Be Real Sports Cycling and Fitness, you're going to get that same amazing customer service. You'll leave with a great understanding of the sport and an appreciation of Be Real's selection, service and expertise. And, hopefully, you'll leave with a brand new bike.

If you're like me, you have already spent and enjoyed countless hours of your life on a bicycle. Here's to riding and relishing many more.
