Why It’s Possible Major Indiana Interstate Highways Could Become Toll Roads
I live in Owensboro KY, so going to Indiana is pretty much like going to the store to pick something up. Outside of my home state, Indiana is the only other one I know I've been in at least once every year of my life. And I'm certain that includes the early years I don't remember.
New Indiana Toll Roads?
I wanted to put that out there because, although I'm not a Hoosier, I've driven Indiana highways enough to form an opinion about road conditions. The only think I don't do is, with a sarcastic tone, say to myself, "My tax dollars at work." I'll save that for bumpy rides in Kentucky.
But, of late, native Hoosiers may have been saying that under their breath or for all to hear. That's because if roads in Indiana are in such bad shape that multiple major interstate highways might need to become toll roads, then the elements have really taken a "toll" on its highways and byways.
Indiana Road Legislation
What I've learned is that road conditions in Indiana have become such a large issue that funds earmarked for necessary repairs are running out, according to WTHR-Indianapolis. It's gotten to the point that legislation has been proposed as perhaps an emergency fix. Indiana House Bill 1461, which would give communities new ways to finance such projects, is currently in the Roads and Transportation Committee of the Indiana House.

What Indiana Interstates Could Become Toll Roads?
While that house bill is a move in the right direction, the powers that be don't seem to think it will be enough since plans for converting existing interstate highways into toll roads is on the table. WTHR also points out that making, say Interstates 70 and 65, will not be a popular move, especially among commercial drivers.
Interstate 90 in northern Indiana is already an EZ Pass toll road.
