Although I'm a huge supporter of the Kentucky State Park system, I'll confess to not having stayed overnight at any of them very often. But I've visited them on numerous occasions. I love the outdoors, and state parks are free fun.

Kentucky State Park Restaurants

But let's talk about the food, shall we?

First of all, yes, when I have spent the night at one of our fine parks (Rough River, Barren River, and LBL are the ones I was talking about earlier), I've enjoyed their massive and extraordinary buffets. Good old home cooking as far as the eye can see.

When I was young, my dad would get in one of his "let's hit the road" moods, and we'd scurry off to a state park just for Sunday dinner. It was always worth it. As far as I'm concerned, I'd sing the praises of Kentucky State Park restaurants even if the menu never changed. But it has, and we'll all be better for it.

New Kentucky State Park Menus

Now before I go any further, not all Kentucky State Parks are currently offering buffets right now; if that is your preference, give them a call before you go. But don't let that stop you. The state park menus reflect a focus on Kentucky Proud...homegrown and homemade.

Kentucky State Parks are open year-round but with modified hours in many cases. Plus, certain facilities and activities are not available during the winter. Also, restaurant hours may be different this time of year. Just check before going.

Bon appetit.
