Well, you've made it, be the graduate, the parent/guardian/relative of a graduate, the friend or spouse of a graduate, the memories can be timeless. The soundtrack of your school years is timeless, at least it always was for me. I decided to take a look back at what country songs were topping the charts during my graduation years. I used Billboard's Hot Country Songs archive.

Okay, to be fair, I didn't have kindergarten graduation. Also back then, I went to morning kindergarten. It was 1982, and from what I estimate, the last day of my first year of school was around May 22nd. The number one song on the country charts? I like this one.

I did have the 8th-grade graduation from Ohio County Middle School that was held at the high school next door. The middle school back then had a gym but no seating. Wayland didn't either, both schools now have newer gyms with seating. Anyway, at number one on the Hot Country chart on May 19th, Clint Black's fourth consecutive chart-topper.

You see, I was "walkin' away" from grade school. Okay, the number one Hot Country song from my high school graduation year of 1994, yep, my 25th reunion is coming up later this year, wow, I was made aware of during our Project Graduation lock-in via a trivia question. And as you'll see this wouldn't be the first time Tim McGraw had a number one hit around one of my graduations.

Last but not least, I have my graduation from Western Kentucky University in May of 1999, yes, it's been 20 years since that milestone. It was the only one of my commencements that were held outside, thus I wore sunglasses. Tim McGraw's "Please Remember Me" spent five weeks at number one on the Hot Country chart beginning the week of May 15th.
