For just the second time in Owensboro's history, the city has received a Playful City USA designation from KaBOOM, a national non-profit that "honors cities and towns across the country for putting the needs of families first so kids can learn, grow and develop important life skills".

As we mentioned, Owensboro is one of just 258 communities nationwide that make it as easy as possible for kids to play. According to a press release from Owensboro's City Hall, these communities feature more than 14,000 safe and engaging play spaces that serve more than 4 million kids.  And here in Owensboro, with Smothers Park, the Greenbelt and more play and green space, we are certainly doing our part!

Owensboro is home to multi-purpose fields; sports courts and sports fields; walking, biking, hiking and running trails; recreational facilities and playgrounds has earned our community this recognition and honor.  The Playful City USA recognition highlights Owensboro's municipal leadership in promoting exercise and wellness in the community.

As for Beaver Dam, this is the 4th time the city has received its Playful distinction.  Henderson in being honored for the 3rd time!
