Owensboro’s Newest Book & Record Store is Open and it is Awesome
Saturday was so beautiful that my husband, Michael, and I went out for a little day date. We be-bopped around town playing music with the windows down, and before hitting up the Big Dipper for lunch, we went to check out the newest store in downtown Owensboro.
My friend Virginia Hardesty has opened up a book and record shop. It's a whole family affair, actually, shout out to her awesome brothers! Displaced Pages is in a little spot on E. 4th Street across from Dee's Diner. Apparently, but not surprisingly, we weren't the only folks excited about the grand opening, because the parking lot was PACKED!
We walked in to find lots of smiling faces, music playing, friends chatting, and immediately fell in love with the vibe. Well-organized, unique and colorful decor, great music playing, and a comfy hangout area that felt like we were visiting a really cool friend's house.
Let me do my best Stefan from SNL impression, and tell you all of the fun and interesting things you will find at Displaced Pages.
- Shelves full of beautiful hardbacks that will transport you to other worlds
- A gently-loved section with books as cheap as $1! Target Dollar Spot, who?
- A carefully curated collection of stories, both educational and entertaining, about social justice, equality, and a diverse array of worldviews.
- One-of-a-kind artwork created by local artists
- Quirky jewelry, keychains, and bookmarks that will make you chuckle
- A cozy as heck sitting area where you can chill and read or hang with friends to chat about books or drink a cup of coffee. (Schedule your next book club meeting there!)
- A little bowl where you can share book recommendations or inspire your TBR List.
- Last but not least, an INCREDIBLE vinyl selection. Michael and I were like, "Take all of our money" (WE WISH). Seriously, though, classic collector albums, brand new popular artists, a great assortment of genres, and a record player if you want to take a listen. Sometimes a flip through some stacks is self-care, ya know? Scratch that, it always is.
I found an album I had been searching for for a long time. I could have ordered it online, but I really wanted to find it "in the wild." IYKYK. I saw it glowing on the wall like the Holy Grail. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. One of my top five favorite records of all time, AND there was a book right beside it, all about the iconic album and why it means so much to so many people. I had to grab that too, and I can't wait to crack it open.
If you love to read, if you love music, if you want a unique and inclusive gathering place to exist here in town, you've got to visit Displaced Pages. Not just once, but again and again.
