Owensboro Catholic 8th Grade Football Team Prepares for 2024 State Championship
The incredible Owensboro Catholic Middle School 8th Grade Football team is once again playing for the State Championship this weekend at Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington, KY. This makes two years in a row and three times in school history that the team has made it to the State Championship.
This past Saturday they defeated Meece Middle School out of Somerset 12-6 to advance. As 2024 Regional Champions, four players made the 2024 Regional Player of the Year Honorable Mention Team - Peyton Morris, Frank Igleheart, Kobi Mitchell, and Bo Jones.
Kathleen Downing works at OCMS, coaches the cheerleaders and her son plays football for the team. She shared how hard these fellas have worked to get to where they are. "We are so proud of them. They had to overcome losing their quarterback to an injury right before playoffs started, but managed to overcome the challenge and come together to push through."
I know these boys aren't just good players, they're good kids too. That is a huge testament to the grit and skill honed by their outstanding coaching staff. The team is led by Hank Harvey, Drew Harvey, Kyle Gorman, Darius Oller, Chad Mongold, and JT Jones. Not to mention their supportive parents who play the roles of taxi drivers, stinky uniform washers, and biggest fans.
This coming Saturday, November 16th, in Lexington, KY the players will suit up to challenge an undefeated, Pikeville Middle School in the KMSFA 8th Grade Division III State Championship. Owensboro Catholic Middle School is hosting a pep rally at the school this Friday for students and parents of the players. You can show support by wearing green and white this weekend! Go Aces!
