Owensboro Couple Hit the High Seas with Cast of The Real Love Boat
According to Variety, CBS recently ordered a local version of The Real Love Boat, which is a reality dating competition on the high seas. The inspiration for the show, obviously, is the popular 1970's series, The Love Boat, which, if you ask me, gave us one of the most recognizable and fun TV theme songs of all-time.
As announced in the Variety article, The Real Love Boat is filming this summer on the Mediterranean. The contestants are spending a month at sea and one couple will make it to the final port and win the show's cash prize, plus an additional cruise on the Princess line.
Two Owensboro residents, Shelby and Jarrod Ratliff just found themselves on the same cruise ship that series is being filmed aboard. Of course, that was completely unintentional and the recently married couple were just along for the really fun ride.
Last week, the Owensboro couple cruised from Barcelona, Spain to Rome, Italy. They've spent the last few days exploring Rome and other famed Italian cities. They'll be making their way back to the U.S. at the end of this week. See, they've already found love and each other. They're "home port" is the house they share here in Owensboro. Sure, they ended up on The Real Love Boat, but clearly they don't need it.
It was purely coincidence that the couple booked the same ship The Real Love Boat was filming on. But, that certainly earned them a fun story to share with their families and friends back home. And, while it was difficult for them to fully comprehend what exactly was transpiring in the scenes they happened across onboard, Jarrod did snap a few photos to share with us.
Jarrod did a little investigating and found out that the crew was filming "12 people who are trying to find love and, if they don't or something happens, they get kicked off."
Jarrod says he and Shelby were at the ship's pool one day when the crew was filming an Aussie couple. See, there apparently are going to be two versions of the show- one for audiences in the U.S. and another for audiences in Australia. At least, it seemed that way to Jarrod.
Jarrod noted that, from what he could tell, there were two different Aussie couples that appeared to be getting close to the end of the show and experience, but he wasn't entirely sure what was supposed to happen next.
And he added that he's not sure if those couples are going to be featured in the American version as well or if the casts truly are different for each country. At any rate, it's quite clear that love had hit the high seas. Jarrod joined us on the radio show this morning to chat about it.
Love! It's definitely exciting and new. Not sure about you, but I'm looking forward to "coming aboard" when the series embarks.
