Here at WBKR, we like to keep track of the various National Holidays celebrated across the country.  As you may know, there is a day for just about anything. From National Pizza Day to National Bubble Wrap Day, there are all kinds of random things to be celebrated with their own special date.

Speaking of random, February 17th is National Random Acts of Kindness Day.  Actually, the whole week leading up to the 17th is known as National Random Acts of Kindness Week and Sutton Elementary School has been working very hard promoting the power of Kindness not just in the halls and classrooms, but in the community as well. With so much negativity and nastiness out there, Sutton students are shining a big ole bright light of love.

Sutton students participated in a schoolwide poster decorating contest with Kindness as the theme. The beautiful artwork is hanging throughout the school, and some special posters were chosen to be shared throughout Owensboro. Guidance counselors Ms. Sara Travis and Ms. Kristen Tines took groups of artists around town to distribute them this week to local businesses and non-profits.

We were lucky enough to receive one of the posters to display here in the studio. Barb welcomed a group of gals to share their mission on the air which is to "Sprinkle kindness everywhere you go." Our poster artist is a fourth grader, Miss Kyree Wedding.

As a former Sutton Elementary student, and now proud mama of one (Hey Rollins!), it makes me so happy to see them all be leaders in our community.  I know they hope to inspire us all to be kind to each other. Such a simple thing to do, but somehow easily forgotten.  With these sweet kids showing us the way, may we be reminded each time we see their beautiful artwork around town. Be Kind.

Here are some highlights from the "Coloring Our Community With Kindness" week.
