I always love it when talented people from Owensboro "make it." Whether it is playing for a big-time sports team or hitting it big with a band, It's awesome to see folks live their dreams.

That is especially the case for me with an old pal from school.  I remember years after graduating, finding Kevin "K.O." Olusola on YouTube with a unique performance. It was just him playing his cello and beatboxing the song Julie-O by Mark Summer and I was hooked. I played this video so many times!

He's always been immensely talented, but this was so interesting! The twist of modern hip-hop beats along with a classical sound. Not long after that Kevin joined some other students from Texas to blow the competition out of the water on the reality TV show The Sing-Off in 2011. I remember hooting, hollering, and cheering at the screen every week for my favorite beat-boxer.

The rest was history as they say. Pentatonix won the show and continued arranging epic mash-ups of popular and throwback hits. They've been recording music and touring ever since with cameos on TV specials, movies, and more. After snagging themselves three Grammys, they are now a household name.

Over the years, members of Pentatonix have also had fun exploring their own musical and creative endeavors. For instance, Kevin, whose main focus has always been playing instruments until his time in the group, has had the opportunity to sing on several songs. I remember him saying he surprised himself with how good it sounded.

Kevin is now taking time to work on his own music and giving fans even more of his voice. He has an album set to release May 9th of this year titled "Dawn of a Misfit" and his first single just dropped last week. Once again, it is a mix of modern sounds and an iconic classical version of Vivaldi's The First Season (Winter.)

Absolutely epic! I love the visuals as well. Kevin also shared a heartfelt message about his journey on his Facebook page.
