Walk to Honor Lives Lost and Raise Suicide Awareness in Owensboro
Join us in honoring Suicide Prevention Month as we take time to reflect on the deep emotional toll of losing a loved one to suicide. The 18th Annual Lifesavers Walk, hosted by the Owensboro Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition, is just around the corner. This special day invites the community to come together in remembrance, support, and fellowship, with space for both healing and hope.
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
Sometimes, when someone is struggling, what they need most is simply someone to talk to. Someone who will truly listen. That’s why it’s so important to have help available around the clock. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline offers just that: free, confidential support 24/7. You are never alone, and help is always within reach. If you or someone you know is in need, call or text 988, or chat online at 988lifeline.org.
Suicide in America
Suicide continues to be a leading cause of death in the U.S., holding its position as the 11th leading cause nationwide. In 2023, preliminary data show that over 49,300 Americans died by suicide, virtually unchanged from the nearly 49,500 deaths reported in 2022. That same year, an estimated 1.5 million Americans attempted suicide, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
On average, that's 135 people dying by suicide each day and one death every 11 minutes. These numbers are staggering, underscoring the urgent need for continued mental health awareness, compassionate support, and preventive action.

Owensboro Regional Suicide Prevention Coalition Mission
"The Coalition began as a task force formed in 2004 and has grown to include many community members. We are your neighbors, and we are all interested in reducing the negative impact that suicide has on our community. Our primary focus is prevention, but we started as a group dedicated to providing help and support for those “survivors” who have lost a loved one to suicide.
