Every year in Owensboro, there is one week in March that is the talk of the town. I'm not talking about basketball madness, I'm talking burger madness. Owensboro Burger Week is such a fun and exciting way to not only support local restaurants but also spend time with your friends and family.

I know folks who get together every year, trying all the burgers and rating them to see who has the best. From cozy diners to downtown hotspots, everyone wants in on the action. Creative cooks start planning months in advance to try to win the big trophy or be the people's champ.

There is also a lot of talk online about what other kinds of foods deserve to be celebrated as well. Tacos? Wings? Pasta? I have noticed one answer being the most popular. Pizza!

Owensboro Times Pizza Week

Our friends at The Owensboro Times are making it happen. Owensboro Pizza Week will be held September 19th-28th. Notice that they threw a few extra days in there because... why not? My foodie friend Christy Chaney, co-owner of OT, shared, "Pizza Week is about way more than eating amazing pizza. It's about showing up for our local restaurants."

Pizza For Dinner = Supporting Small Business

I don't need an excuse to enjoy a good slice or two, but if you want to justify having pizza for dinner every night for 10 days, just tell yourself you're supporting small businesses. And it would be the truth! Just follow these simple steps from Owensboro Times event organizers:

  1. Be kind. We want good vibes only.
  2. Tip your servers, because they're the real MVPs.
  3. Order extra food, because pizza never travels alone.
  4. Post on social media, and be sure to show off those slices with #OTPizzaWeek
  5. Vote! Every slice deserves your say.

How to Participate in Owensboro Times Pizza Week

"Tip the staff like you mean it. Snap all the food pics, because everyone knows the camera eats first," Chaney said, "And share it everywhere. These businesses are serving our community, fueling our economy, and feeding our bellies. And for the love of pepperoni, don't complain about the wait!"

How to Sign Up for Owensboro Pizza Week

The deadline for restaurants to sign up is September 3rd, so if you own or operate one in Owensboro, you still have time to join in on the pizza party by emailing info@owensborotimes.com. Traditional and non-traditional (calzones, pizza bagels, etc.) entries will be allowed.

Just like Owensboro Burger Week, all pizzas will be sold at a set price to be announced. Pizza makers will get to use their creativity to come up with dough-licious dishes and cheesy masterpieces that will then be voted on by the public and judged by local experts.

Owensboro Pizza Week Champions

Here are the trophies up for grabs:

  • The Supreme (selected through a blind tasting by a panel of foodies, chefs, and more)
  • The People's Slice (best traditional pizza, chosen by community vote)
  • Outside the Pizza Box Award (most creative non-traditional entry, chosen by community vote)
  • The Dough$ Maker Award (highest sales during Pizza Week)

We'll let you know as soon as we have the official list of participating restaurants. Chad & I will also be bringing you along for all the action. So go ahead and prepare your taste buds for your new favorite holiday. Let's get Hot & Ready for Owensboro Times Pizza Week!
