The Owensboro Police Department along with the Owensboro Fire Department is seeing an increase in vacant property fires with the recent drop in temperatures.  They think the cause of these local fires could be from individuals trying to keep warm.

They are reminding the community of the danger of indoor fires without proper ventilation.  Carbon Monoxide is responsible for a number of deaths across the United States and is most likely to happen during cold weather.

According to OPD; Vacant/abandoned buildings or homes are appealing to the homeless who are trying to stay warm and out of the elements.

They are asking property owners to make sure they are secured and if you see suspicious activity you are asked to report it to OPD at 270-687-8888.
