Owensboro Publix Fans, Your Wait Is Almost Over — Here’s the Opening Date
If you're a Kentuckian who's ever vacationed in Florida, there's a strong possibility that you do what I do. Anytime I vacation in Sarasota or Siesta Key (my favorite Florida destinations), the very first thing I do when I get there is hit up a Publix. I will stock up on groceries for the week in a single visit. I love a Publix and we're about to have two of them right here in my hometown.
For the last few months, there's been rapid-fire construction on two Publix stores here in Owensboro. One is just off Hwy 54. The second is on the west side of town very near where I live. And here's an interesting fact from a consumer competition standpoint: both are within a stone's throw of Kroger locations.

If you're a local Publix fan here in the 'Boro, your wait is nearly over. We now have the official opening date for the location at Gateway Commons. The store will open its doors and welcome its first shoppers on Saturday, October 3rd.
To give you an idea of how the chain's geography is expanding, another Publix location is opening just days later on the opposite side of the state. Shoppers in Florence will get their first chance to shop Publix on Wednesday, October 7th.
The new stores are part of the ongoing expansion plans of Publix, which opened its first Kentucky store in Louisville in 2024. The current number of Publix stores is rapidly increasing and Owensboro is a prime example.
As someone who enjoys shopping at Publix in Florida, I am pretty excited about the chance to get to shop at one here at home. And, while we don't yet have the opening date for the Publix location on the west side of Owensboro, I can literally see that one from my front porch. It's sure going to beat driving to Siesta Key to get to one.
