The Helens Take Over Downtown Owensboro! Roper Romp For Sparky

The only woman I can think of who loves a fabulous caftan more than Yours Truly is the iconic Ms. Roper from "Three's Company." In fact, she may be where my love for this glamorous and tacky (but in a good way) garment began. I used to LOVE watching Nick at Nite.

Audra Marie Lindley, who played Helen Roper on the TV show, passed away in 1997, but her memory lives on in the resurgence of her famous fashion statement. Bold yet comfortable. Elegant without all the effort (or the Spanx). What was once just a satin housedress in fun patterns is now a total trend being created once again by designers all over the world, as evidenced by my TikTok feed.

This woman makes sparkly versions in different styles and colors. So pretty, and what a way to say, 'I am here for the party!" Speaking of party, our friends at Sparky Pet Rescue of Kentucky are getting ready to host their second annual Mrs. Roper Romp fundraiser. I went last year, and it was a BLAST AND A HALF.

A gaggle of gals swarmed Downtown Owensboro donning red curly wigs and bright tacky (in a good way) dresses inspired by Helen's iconic look. There were a few Mr. Ropers as well! And even a dog lookalike!

We whooped it up REAL GOOD and participated in a scavenger hunt from the Riverpark Center to The Pub on Second and everywhere in between. The looks from people driving by in their cars were HILARIOUS!

Folks even posted on social media asking what in the world was going on. Well, it's about to happen again, so get ready, baby! You can join in the fun this time for a great cause! The festivities kick off Friday, October 2nd at The Riverpark Center Pop-up Bar on Daviess Street.

Of course, there will be photo ops to perfectly capture your amazing outfit. A Bingo Map to check in at special locations during the crawl and be entered to win in the drawing. Cute little Helen ducks will be hidden for a fun scavenger hunt. Individuals, groups, and even dogs can compete for best costume awards. Last but not least, new this year...a PARADE!
