Peanuts & Patience: Meet Owensboro’s Squirrel Whisperer

Today just so happens to be National Squirrel Appreciation Day. I have to admit, I don't LOVE a squirrel. They have caused chaos at my house by chewing through the internet lines outside, and I just KNOW they tease and taunt our dogs on purpose.

Squirrels have gnawed multiple holes through the trash toter lid to drag garbage out of it. I actually have a hilarious story about one instance, which you can read here. Those suckers have some serious audacity! They'll do just about anything for a snack too.

Our friend Lori Champion is the first person I think of when I think of squirrels. She is basically a Disney princess with how much they love her. You know how Snow White had all of those critter friends to help her do the dishes? Jealous!

Well, I don't think Lori has her squirrels trained like that, but it's only a matter of time! If you know this lovely lady, you know she has a big beautiful porch where she loves to sit, relax with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and a good book, and wave at friends who honk as they drive by.

Over time, thanks to "peanuts and patience," Lori told us, she has also made friends with the neighborhood squirrels. Bob Ross would be so proud.

They stop by for snacks and will even look into her house if she isn't out on the porch!

This next photo was taken from her kitchen sink window. This little feller knew exactly where to find her and give her a guilt trip for some grub. Look at the little hand on the screen!

Lori's "regulars" even have names. Flufferbutt, Son of Flufferbutt, Fatso, Mamacita, and Ringo. Here is the clip from this morning where she told us all about her cute little friends.

Once the weather warms up, they will start to pop back up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Ready for more snacks and chit chats with their bestie. Lori Champion, squirrel whisperer.
