If you have ever seen Owensboro High School student Dylan McCollam perform, it is crystal clear that she was born to be in the spotlight. Dylan may as well have been born with a mic in her hand, that's how long she has been gracing stages around Kentucky.  She recently took the mic at the Kentucky State Fair Coca-Cola Classic talent contest and brought home the second-place prize!  She qualified by competing in the Talent Show at the Daviess County Fair.  After being chosen as one of the five finalists from our county, Dylan joined the 55 other amazing performers from across Kentucky to compete in Louisville this past week.

She sang the song "With You" from Ghost the Musical which I have to admit I had never heard before, but WOW what an emotional show-stopping ballad which I have no doubt Dylan absolutely slayed.

Her older sister Kennedy, who is also an incredible performer, once sang this same song in a past State Fair talent contest. "Kennedy is my biggest role model. Every chance I get to share an experience with her I take it. Not only is she my biggest inspiration, she is my best friend! I wouldn’t be who or where I am without her! So, getting to have a shared experience with her is so important to me," Dylan told me.

In fact, this was a full-circle moment for Dylan, "I was five years old when I first performed in front of an audience. Coincidentally, it was the Coca-Cola Classic at the Daviess County Fair!" Oh my goodness, what an absolute doll baby she was! Her confidence, bright eyes, and big voice with that sweet little lisp. Here she is singing "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid at the Daviess County Fair Talent Show in 2012.

I have seen sweet Dylan grow up doing her thing at Theatre Workshop of Owensboro, Encore Musicals at Riverpark Center, and with the Rose Curtain Players.  That sassy little precocious girl has become a lovely young lady who is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. This picture is from her wonderful portrayal of Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors last Summer.

Dylan is always such a joy to watch because you can tell she puts her whole heart and soul into her performance. "I love the rehearsals, I love the work, and I love to entertain. Any chance I get to make a person feel something, I go for it. I love to put smiles on people’s faces, and by performing I can! It’s not only something I do in my free time, It’s what I want to do for the rest of my life." Remember her name, y'all! We'll be seeing it in lights one day.

Entertaining is obviously her biggest passion, but her heart for others has to be a close second. She participated in the prestigious Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts this past Summer. When one of her instructors asked her what she wanted to give back to her community, she said "Love. The amount of love I felt at GSA was astonishing, so this upcoming year I want to spread the love around Owensboro, my Family, and my Friends!"
