A Diving Quarry in Kentucky Could Be the Most Unexpected Fall Trip You Take
Fall getaways come in all shapes and sizes. Honestly, there's no set definition of what makes a weekend road trip a great one. That's up to you. But, in terms of what we're discussing here, you'll need to make it happen on a weekend.
Blue Meridian
In 2011, a friend of mine, through Blue Meridian Dive Center in Owensboro, Kentucky, taught me how to scuba dive. If I do say so myself, I was a quick study, although I'd have to be retaught since I didn't keep it up. But it was exhilarating. I even got to play a round of underwater Monopoly. (That's me being told to wave at the camera.)
Pennyroyal Scuba Center
Hopkinsville, Kentucky, is the home of the Pennyroyal Scuba Center, another wonderful location where you can learn how to scuba dive. However, Pennyroyal is also a resort with scuba diving as its main attraction. As you can see, it happens in a big quarry.
And if you're sitting there thinking, "Well, I don't know how to scuba dive," read the second paragraph again. Trust me, if I can learn how to scuba dive as quickly as I did, you can, too. It's a crazy rush, and I wouldn't mind doing it again.
However, if you are going for a scuba getaway, it's a good idea to learn before you go. During the fall, Pennyroyal Scuba Center is only open on weekends. According to its website, you'll need three or four days to learn, meaning you would need to go in the spring or summer.
But hey, if you're near Owensboro, you could learn at Blue Meridian and visit Pennyroyal for a cool and unique fall excursion.
