Every year, I look forward to that period of time when fall foliage is at its peak in my western Kentucky neck of the woods. But we often don't get full, vibrant colors until we get closer to Halloween and into November.

And you HAVE to catch it at the right time; once those colors peak, they begin to dull very quickly.

FIND KENTUCKY'S FALL COLORS AND ENJOY

But like every other state that enjoys rich, beautiful fall colors, the leaves are different AND are on a different timetable depending on where you are. And if you're in Kentucky, you can just about guarantee you'll get peak beauty the farther east you go. After all, that's where the mountains are.

KY PHOTOGRAPHER CAPTURES THE FALL BEAUTY OF THE COMMONWEALTH

Recently, I was tipped off about a photographer named Jon Denney who lives in Somerset KY. He has two Facebook pages; one for "Jon Denney" and the other for "Jon Uriah." It's on that second page where you'll find some of his amazing portraits.

When I saw more recent photos illustrating just how beautiful the Commonwealth can be this time of year, I had to reach out. He then gave me permission to share these with you. Simply stunning.

By the way, these photos were taken in Jackson County KY. According to his Facebook page, Jon is a particular fan of that beautiful old church. And why not? Old country churches were MADE for photo galleries. (Jigsaw puzzles, too.)

VIDEOGRAPHER BEN CHILDERS' DRONE WORK WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

A few years ago, I discovered a videographer named Ben Childers whose work has been blowing my mind ever since. Look at this extraordinary and picturesque drone view of snow-covered Corbin KY from last January:

Ben also sent his drone to capture stark and humbling imagery of this summer's flooding in eastern Kentucky. It really brings the devastation into full focus.

But I have to tell you, he stopped me cold with this unbelievable overview of what fall looks like in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. This is just breathtaking.

If what you've seen doesn't make you want to plan a trip around the beauty Kentucky has to offer, I don't know what will.

I plan fall trips starting in APRIL, so that would be nothing new to me.
