I'm not much of a coffee drinker. Never really have been. In fact, there are probably a few people in my life who would strongly suggest I avoid caffeine altogether because I already have enough energy on my own. But Owensboro's newest locally owned spot, Porch Light Coffee & Creamery, may have finally won me over, and it starts with ice cream, smoothies, and gooey grilled cheese sandwiches.

Located at 3245 Mt. Moriah Suite 1 off Hwy 54 on Owensboro's east side, Porch Light Coffee & Creamery is getting ready to officially welcome the community with an Open House celebration this Saturday. Our own Dave Spencer will even be broadcasting live from noon until 2 p.m., giving folks the perfect excuse to stop by, look around, and sample what the new shop has to offer.

Owner Ashley Heady said opening the business has been a longtime dream. Originally from Muhlenberg County, Heady has lived in Owensboro for the past couple of years and said she's excited to bring something fresh and family-friendly to the area.

And while coffee is obviously a big part of the menu, Porch Light goes beyond your standard drip brew. Customers can grab everything from cappuccinos, cold brew, Americanos, pour-overs, and flavored lattes to red eyes, matcha, chai teas, smoothies, and specialty signature drinks.

For the tea lover, options include Earl Grey, Jasmine Green, and Hibiscus alongside the more familiar chai and matcha. Heady also said offering more sugar-free options was important because she feels that's something many coffee shops are missing.

The coffee itself also has a unique touch. Beans are sourced through a supplier that imports from Venezuela and roasts fresh upon order, giving customers a fresher experience with every cup.

The kitchen is more than just a snack counter, too. Breakfast options include a lineup of morning tacos, such as Sunrise Taco, Porch Bacon, and Garden Sunrise, along with croissant sandwiches filled with egg and cheese. Come lunchtime, the menu shifts to classics like a BLT, Club, and yes, that gooey grilled cheese that caught my eye from the start.

Then there's the sweet treats side of things, which, admittedly, is where my attention immediately went. In addition to grab-and-go items like donuts, muffins, and yogurt parfaits, Porch Light serves Chaney's Dairy Barn ice cream, and the flavor list is serious: Birthday Cake, Butter Pecan, Cow Tracks, Oreo, Mint Chocolate Chip, Salted Caramel, Cookie Butter, Peach, and plenty more. The shop recently shared its flavor lineup online and even asked followers to help choose which flavor to add next. That may be one of the toughest decisions Owensboro has faced all week!

With specialty drinks, a full breakfast and lunch menu, sweet treats, and plenty of options for non-coffee drinkers like me, Porch Light Coffee & Creamery feels less like a quick stop and more like a place people will want to hang out. And if you need a little "kick in the pants," they've got that covered too!
