PossumFest Might Be the Most Kentucky Thing Ever

There are two types of people in the world. 1. Those who love possums and think they are adorable, valuable, and deserve to be celebrated. 2. Those who are creeped out by them and are downright WRONG. I mean, just LOOK at this face!

A Possum Festival in Cumberland, KY

One of these days, I am going to make it to Possum Fest in Cumberland, KY.  Their event page calls it "The weirdest and most wonderful block party around!" The first weekend in September, hundreds of people come out to celebrate the affectionately named "Trash Cat." This native critter is very important to the ecosystem, and I personally think it should be our official state animal.

PossumFest 2025 Food & Fun

This is the fourth year for this festival, and it just keeps getting better. With lots of unique vendors, activities for kids and families on the Possum Playground, delicious food, and live music, it's safe to say this year is going to be awesome. Plus, there will be opportunities to meet and greet real possums!

One of the food trucks that will be there has a really creative menu.  This is what they served up last year.

Try some Trashy Nachos, Roadkill Sandwich, or a Possum Tail (that's a corn dog!) Returning food truck, Community Agricultural Nutritional Enterprises, Inc.- CANE always understands the assignment. Don't worry, it's not ACTUAL possum!

One lucky person will be crowned Possum Queen! I've never done beauty pageants, but I think I may have a chance at that one. I, too, take sudden naps and hiss at people who irritate me.
