
Join Owensboro’s Free Adult Education Series For Seniors This May
The Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County is celebrating the month of May with the launch of a brand new adult education series. The program is offered FREE of charge to anyone 60 or older. This month's classes cover a wide range of topics- from real estate, to funeral planning, to gardening. Plus, the Senior Community Center has rounded up a variety of local experts to share their knowledge and advice.
Lora Wimsatt, who has helped 'get the word out' and craft the class experiences, says, "Classes are designed to provide meaningful learning experiences for seniors."
Here's a look at the class schedule for the month of May.

REAL TALK ABOUT REAL ESTATE- TUESDAY, MAY 6 (4PM)
In this class, local realtor Sarah Barnes will discuss issues such as reverse mortgages, the proper way to put a beneficiary's name on a deed, financing, and other issues senior citizens may have regarding real estate. Jeremy Jones will be on hand to explain the roles and responsibilities of home inspectors. David Crowe will discuss available lending options. Local attorney Tommy Littlepage will be there to provide legal guidance.
WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP- TUESDAY, MAY 13 (2PM)
If you love art, you're going to love and appreciate this opportunity. Local artist Diane Huff will be teaching the basic techniques for creating beautiful watercolor artworks. Diane, by the way, is an award-winning artist and she's looking forward to sharing her expertise with the class.
FUNERAL AND END-OF-LIFE PLANNING- TUESDAY, MAY 20 (4PM)
The Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County has recruited one of our city's most renowned experts in the field to teach this class. Glenn Taylor, who is the President of Glenn Funeral Home, will talk about the best ways to prepare ourselves and/or loved ones for an impeding death. Topics include- funeral planning, grief and bereavement counseling, the benefits of pre-planning funeral arrangements, etc.
CONTAINER GARDENING- THURSDAY, MAY 22 (12:30PM)
Agents from the Daviess County Extension Service will be on hand to teach you how to be a green thumb! They'll present information about growing flowers and vegetables in pots or other closed containers. If you don't have a large yard to garden in, this class is perfect for you.
WILLS & POWER OF ATTORNEY WORKSHOP- TUESDAY, MAY 27 (4PM)
Local attorneys Jesse and Worth Mountjoy will go the head of the class to share important information about legal documents that EVERY senior should have. Those documents include wills, medical directives, power of attorney, etc.
