Sheryl Crow’s ‘Threads’ Features Collaborations With Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile + So Many More
Recent digital offerings by Sheryl Crow have featured some all-time musical greats, from the late Johnny Cash to two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Stevie Nicks. Those selections from Crow's forthcoming duets album, Threads, just scratch the surface of the impressive cast of musicians who took part in an ambitious project featuring a wide range of legends and young stars.
The full track list reveals more bold choices, such as Crow tackling a Keith Richards and Mick Jagger composition ("The Worst") with "Keef" himself, and a cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Border Lord" featuring its writer, country's own all-time Renaissance man. Beyond those examples, there's a genre-spanning list of legends (from Chuck D of Public Enemy to James Taylor) and an equally impressive array of young talents (St. Vincent, Margo Price).
Recently, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban have teased abandoning the album format and releasing songs digitally, one or two at a time. It's a sensible notion in a business that's always been driven by singles. Crow took the concept further, announcing in advance that Threads would be her final album, despite no plans to stop recording.
Threads is due out on Aug. 30, via the Valory Music Co.
