Celebrating 1,000 Beds Built for Owensboro Children in Need
Sleep in Heavenly Peace Owensboro is celebrating a milestone of 1,000 beds built for local children, providing them with a safe and comfortable place to sleep. That’s 1,000 kids in our community who now have a bed thanks to the many volunteers, donors, and everyday people who care. But the work isn’t done yet. Here’s how you can help make a difference by volunteering at a build, donating new bedding, or attending one of the upcoming events to support the mission.
Every year during the Christmas Wish season, I come across wish letters from children in our community, and some of them stop me in my tracks. Among the wishes for toys and games, I’ll see requests for toddler and twin beds. It’s humbling to realize how many kids in our own backyard don’t have a safe, comfortable place to sleep. And it’s why I’m so passionate about supporting Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP). These are children in our schools, neighborhoods, and community. And, they need us!
About Sleep in Heavenly Peace – Owensboro, KY Chapter
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is part of a national nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering beds to children, ages 3–17, who sleep on the floor or in unsafe conditions. Since launching in 2019, the Daviess County chapter has provided beds for over 900 kids in the Owensboro area. Powered entirely by community volunteers and donations, they believe every child deserves a safe, comfortable place to sleep, because no kid should sleep on the floor. Each bed they build is delivered with love, a mattress, and brand-new bedding! This is where you can help.
Want to Help, But Can’t Attend? Donate Bedding Instead!
You can still make an impact by donating new twin-size bedding items to support local bed deliveries. They can use new, Twin-size sheets, Pillows, Comforters, and Blankets. You can drop off at 1310 Lyddane Bridge Rd in Owensboro. Every set of sheets or pillow you donate helps transform a wooden frame into a cozy place for a child to sleep. Every child deserves to get a restful night's sleep!

Milestone Bed Build – Saturday, August 9th, 2025
This is more than just another volunteer day! On August 9th from 8:30 AM until 11:30 AM, the community will come together to celebrate Sleep in Heavenly Peace's huge milestone. The 1,000th bed is being built right here in Owensboro! All, thanks to you.
Pickleball for a Purpose – Coming in September | Owensboro Country Club
Join Sleep in Heavenly Peace for a fun, high-energy pickleball tournament where every match helps fund beds for local kids. You don’t have to be an expert player; just come ready to support a cause that truly makes a difference in the lives of area children.
