Is it Legal to Sleep in Your Vehicle Overnight at Buc-ee’s?
We love road trips. I know it isn't for everyone, but we are an "enjoy the journey" type of family. Going where the wing blows us makes for some special memories we otherwise would miss.
Lately, I have been looking into making our big ole "Party Barge" more suitable for camping, so we can successfully tackle some spontaneous traveling. Drive toward a destination city and stop along the way at various roadside attractions or detours. That could mean we need to stay flexible when it comes to our sleeping arrangements.
Can You Sleep in Your Vehicle At Buc-ee's?
In researching laws surrounding where you can and cannot sleep in your vehicle, I have found something that surprised me. Arguably, the most popular rest stop/gas station/superstore, Buc-ee's, has a policy that does not allow for sleeping in the parking lot overnight.
According to the FAQ on their website, Buc-ee's answers the question "Can I park my vehicle in your parking lot and rest there?" With "No. In our efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for all of our customers, we cannot accommodate vehicles for an extended amount of time in our lots."
I'm in a car camping Facebook group where folks have shared that after going in and pleading their case to a manager, they have been allowed to stay for a night. If it's a matter of safe travel, you may get lucky. Some stores will make allowances or instruct travelers to park far away from the door.
