Raise your hand if you've ever felt White Castle and Krystal needed a little competition. Those two have pretty much taken ownership of the sliders game in terms of national chains. But hold your horses, here comes another one on their flank.

Smalls Sliders

I believe I have seen a Smalls Sliders restaurant from a distance and didn't realize that's what it was. I may have even thought I was looking at the back of a Howard Johnson's, but that's unlikely in 2025. I wish I'd investigated further because from what I've discovered through my research into this Louisiana-based chain, I like this place. I like the menu. (They have their own signature sauce and an item called "Biggie Smalls," which is amazing.) I've never been much of a fan of White Castle or Krystal, and I realize that will sound like blasphemy to some people.

If you're not familiar with Smalls Sliders, let's take a closer look.

All I can say is, "You had me at waffle fries." But those are some pretty nice looking sliders as well. (And they should be.)

Small Sliders Origins

Smalls Sliders is a relatively young chain, having opened its first location "way back" in 2019. It got off the ground for the simplest of reasons. Founder Brandon Landry loves cheeseburger sliders. And when you love something the way Landry loves sliders and his company, you take care of your growing list of fans. You might as well hear it from the horse's mouth.

Smalls Sliders, which touts former New Orleans Saints quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees as a major investor, has several locations across the south and plans to move into Kentucky, specifically Lexington. In fact, four Smalls Sliders restaurants are expected to open in the region.

I absolutely enjoy an occasional road trip to Lexington, I am putting Smalls Sliders on a to-do list as soon as I finish this sentence.
