
STEMpire Empowers Evansville Girls to Rule Science and Tech
I remember when I was in 5th grade, being told that girls aren't typically as good as boys when it comes to math. So what did I do? I joined the math team and took all advanced classes to show them how wrong they were. Of course, girls are good at math and should be encouraged to learn more about whatever they are passionate about.
What Does STEM Stand For?
STEM is an acronym that stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. While those four fields of study have many exciting pathways to explore, they all lead to critical thinking skills and innovation.

Speaking of innovation, where are my STEM gals? I know careers in science and technology have been historically male-dominated, but as Beyonce once asked us, "Who run the world?" (Now you answer...girls!)

STEMpire: Empowering Young Women in STEM
However, across the globe, only 25-34% of STEM workers are female. I learned that from Evansville's student-founded non-profit called STEMpire. Their goal is to empower young women to pursue problem-solving careers by rebelling against those outdated stereotypes I mentioned above and providing educational opportunities.
2025 STEM Conference For Girls in Evansville
If you know a young lady who loves to learn about Biology or could spend all day doing puzzles and games, they would love an upcoming conference hosted by STEMpire. Coding workshops, VR Chemistry, Biology, and Engineering Challenges, and more, at the University of Evansville's Eykamp Hall on June 7th and 8th.

Upcoming 8th graders- high school seniors with aspirations in STEM careers will also benefit from education planning and advice from women leading the way. A doctor who specializes in forensics and psychology, a scientist who has partnered with NASA, and the founder of an IT company, to name a few.
