The signature of a good and hot summer in Kentucky and throughout the South is the occasional yet sometimes constant din of a brood of cicadas. I mean if it's hot, they are humming like crazy.

With temperatures in the mid to upper 90's and the heat index over 115,  makes conditions outside unbearable and trying to keep your home cool is tough when it's so hot out.  Here are a few tips I hope help you out.  Close the window blinds to keep excess heat and sunlight pouring in your windows, close off unused vents to a room that is not in use, leave the laundry until night-time, hold-off on

It was one of those routine visits with my mom. They've happened before. They'll likely happen again. But on this particular night--and a particularly muggy one, at that--I walked out of the front door into a swarm of whatever THOSE things are (see photo on left). For lack of a more specific term, I'll just call them bugs.
