Last summer, we went on what they used to call a stay-cation. That's because we STAYED in Kentucky and headed to Appalachia for a look around some parts of the Commonwealth I'd never before experienced. It was WELL worth the time. Cumberland Gap National Park MUST be on any Kentuckian's bucket list.

Cave Hill Cemetery -- Louisville

If you think it's weird to think of a cemetery as an ATTRACTION, think again. They are loaded with history; they are loaded with monuments to famous people (in many cases); and the older they are, the more beautiful and ornate the headstones are. Cave Hill Cemetery is where Muhammad Ali, Colonel Sanders, and 1940s Hollywood matinee idol Victor Mature are buried. I've spent at least an hour every time I've been.

Paducah KY

I love Paducah. It's a little smaller than Henderson, in terms of population, but it is loaded with fun things to do. Let's start with a beautiful downtown area featuring great local restaurants and shops. Then there's the National Quilt Museum which is one of the sights you'll see when you stroll the Paducah Riverwalk. And while you're at it, take tons of photos of the Floodwall Murals which are packed with pictorial history.

Those are just a couple of examples--and examples WITHIN examples--of why we're here today. They're FREE. And they are not alone. There are many more awesome things to do that will not cost you a penny, and here they are--ranked by TripAdvisor for your perusal. Enjoy.
