The ‘Kentucky’ Cantaloupe and Other Fun and Quirky Food Discoveries
When I was young, Dad would let me stay up late enough to watch the first 30 minutes of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Funny Food Shapes
One of my favorite episodes, which I can still see today thanks to social media, featured Johnny chatting with a guest who collected potato chips that resembled other items. They were spot on. It would seem this lady had her work cut out for her, but she was equal to the task. She had a whole bowl, and she endured a minor shock that sent shockwaves of humor through the audience and out through the TV screen.
Perhaps she had some mystical power that helps me, to this day, spot little oddities like that. I'll look down and notice some scrap of something on the floor that looks like, say, Florida. Just yesterday, I tore a paper towel off the roll unevenly and saw that it was the same shape as Montana. (Should've taken a picture of it had I known this story was in my future.)
'Kentucky' Cantaloupe
So, congratulations to Haleigh Johnson, the proud new owner of the "Kentucky cantaloupe." I'm not sure if that's the official name, but I'm making it official. It was grown at Reid's Orchard, was washed and placed in a bin for sale, and nobody noticed it until Haleigh walked by. It can't be, but doesn't it look like it was stamped on the cantaloupe?
You know, Kentucky, appropriately enough, looks like a chicken leg. I'm happy to report that someone (a good while back) posted a chicken leg for proof.
What about you? Have you ever seen something on your plate that looked like a state you want to visit? Or have?
