The KFC Yum! Center Gets All Spiffed Up with a Power-Washing Drone
Can you wash a car with a power washer? I'm asking for a friend. I think the answer is no. I guess the car wash is kind of like that. But how do you wash the outside of an over 700,000 square foot arena?
I've seen houses power-washed, but they've been mostly one-story or ranch-type dwellings. I didn't know that larger, I'm assuming, houses or large buildings can be power-washed. Again, one very large building, an arena, got power-washed for the very first time; the KFC Yum! Center in Downtown Louisville. Check this out!
This is mind-blowing. Here's the other shocking part, the Yum! Center's exterior has never been washed like this since it opened in 2010. Yes, it's been washed but never as expertly as this; conventional methods can't cover every inch and 103,968.000 square inches is a lot.
Here are some facts about the arena's interior that we all know and love:
- Seating
The arena has 22,090 seats for basketball, making it the largest arena in the US designed primarily for basketball. It can also accommodate up to 23,000 people for concerts.
- Records
The arena's attendance record for a sporting event is 22,815, set in 2013 for a men's basketball game against Notre Dame. The attendance record for any event is 23,085, set in 2019 for a Metallica concert. On June 8, 2024, the arena hosted the highest-grossing US UFC Fight Night of all time, with 19,578 fans and a revenue of $2,500,652.
- Other features
The arena has a 40,000-pound center-hung scoreboard, 130 miles of electrical conduit, 322 miles of electrical wiring, and 9,000 light fixtures. It also has eight bars and lounges, four meeting rooms, and a large exterior plaza with city views.
Last year, it was reported that the facility had brought in nearly a billion dollars in economic impact in under a decade. One notable event from last year was Morgan Wallen's show in April; it posted the venue's largest-ever grossing ticket sales.
