If you are unfamiliar with the work of the Opportunity Center of Owensboro (formerly Owensboro ARC), now is a great time to learn. Actually, now is the BEST time to learn.

THE AMAZING WORK OF THE OPPORTUNITY CENTER OF OWENSBORO

That's because the center's "Giving Tuesday" campaign is in full swing and goes through December 11th. And it's an OPPORTUNITY for you to help make sure this wonderful organization continues its great work with those Owensboroans with disabilities who are reaping the amazing benefits provided by the Opportunity Center.

Let me show you an example of those benefits. Through work with the center and its adult day training program which provides practical learning experience, my friend Ashley practices her daily living skills by shopping for specific ingredients for taco soup. By the way that sounds amazing.

ADVOCACY, TRAINING, AND SUPPORT

On Veterans Day, a trip to Veterans of Foreign War gave Jacqueline, Chad, Liz, and others the opportunity to deliver handmade greeting cards and a Veterans Day wreath.

Other clients of the Opportunity Center had the chance to take much-needed baby items to the Oasis Shelter.

THE NECESSITY OF 'GIVING TUESDAY'

The Opportunity Center's mission is "to provide training, advocacy, and support to people with disabilities that empower them to achieve their life goals." That's why ongoing events like "Giving Tuesday" are so vital; the center is doing sensational work WITH and FOR the community and can only continue with the citizens' donations.

Nothing feels greater than finally having opportunities to succeed in life when you may have previously thought they would never present themselves. And that's what the Opportunity Center of Owensboro--which provides services via the Support for Community Living and Michelle P. Waiver programs--is all about and will CONTINUE to thrive if they are always able to meet their goals.

Molly Robinson recently moved to Owensboro from Louisville where she worked for another grocery chain as a cake decorator. We couldn't be more excited that she brought her talents to our community because she is incredibly talented and the most amazing part she's self-taught.
