The Struggles of the Job Search is Real – Part Deux
Job search has changed over the years. Computer skills are a must! I belong to several job websites,www indeed.com and www.monster.com are two I look at most frequently. Both require setting up a username and password and a profile. I find indeed most user friendly. Once you are set up, new jobs will be emailed to you daily with links to apply.
Employers also have their own sites. Most want a profile set up and then you can go back and apply for things as they are posted. It is all repetitive and gets confusing. I recommend using the same password for each or getting a method to manage all of these passwords. If you have a smartphone, go to the app store and look for password minder apps.
At this point I have applied for so many things that I really have no idea how many I have applied. I have noticed that;
- Computer skills are necessary for jobs that do not use a computer or office
- Many companies no longer have paper applications
- You need a resume, but only to email or upload, no need to print
- Most sites offer an option to pre-fill the application with your resume THIS NEVER WORKS and results in a lot of backspacing to erase misplaced data
The most recent application testing fun had the following questions;
How often are you bubbly, spiteful, withdrawn, gentle, heartless? Does someone really respond they are heartless? I have always been under the impression heartless people didn't realize they were heartless. This is disturbing.
What is your last salary? Can I tell you that my current salary is $0.00 so that leaves me wide open! If I am earning nothing, do I have the audacity to turn down something?
True or False
- I am blamed more often than others when things go wrong
- I don't have much authority or power
- Luck or chance determines much of my fate
- Fate allows powerful people to get where they are
- If someone is mad at me it is usually for good reason
- I have lots of inner strength
- Even when I plan, I am unprepared
I am a bit scared after these questions! The reason for my fear is that I really don't have authority or power? I am applying for a job, if I had authority I would hire myself and be done with this endless merry go round of questions. I can assure you that if someone is mad at me I probably did something, but who knows and what does that have to do with anything? ARE THEY ALREADY MAD? I DON'T EVEN WORK THERE! Well, if they are mad then its really best that I look elsewhere.
