I grew up taking swimming lessons at the Owensboro Family YMCA.  When I was a teenager, I was President of the Owensboro Community Teen Council.  Our meetings were held at the Y.  As an adult, when I decided to do some Sweatin' for St. Jude, I climbed on a treadmill and ran 50 miles at, you guessed it.  The YMCA. Twice!

Angel has very similar memories.  She sweated for St. Jude there too, for 24 consecutive hours.  She spent a bunch of time there as a kid.  And, fun fact, her first job ever was at the Owensboro Family YMCA.  She got hired when she was 14.

The Y has a long, storied history here in Owensboro as a haven for fitness and family.  Today, our friends there are hosting a Day of Giving.  As you know, this year has been tough for everyone, but especially for area non-profits like the Y.

According to local representatives, the YMCA is a "critical financial crossroads" due to the loss of roughly 60% of its monthly income from membership dues.  And, because of COVID-19, the YMCA was unable to hold its annual summer camps, which are a significant revenue driver each year.

So, in an effort to keep the doors open, they're hosting the YMCA Day of Giving.  Here's how you can donate:

You can donate via the YMCA's secure website:

You can mail a check to the Owensboro Family YMCA, 900 Kentucky Parkway, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Or you can call 270-663-8202 from 8am - 5pm on Friday, November 20th to pledge.

Here's a message from Executive Director John Alexander.

Happy YMCA Day of Giving!  Please consider helping the Y continue its 125-year-old mission and tradition.
