A recent blog by Erin Grant shed light on a proposed Kentucky House bill about merging a number of Kentucky counties.

According to a report from WDRB/Louisville, Kentucky House member Toby Herald believes that the Bluegrass State has an unsustainable number of counties at 120.

He says that that number of governments within the Commonwealth's borders creates a strain on the tax base.

He further cites statistics that show that about 84% of Kentucky's counties have fewer than 50,000 residents and that the smallest county could probably fit inside a Louisville suburb.

It will likely meet tons of resistance since government officials in these more sparsely populated counties aren't going to relish the idea of being relieved of their duties.

This is going to be an interesting story to follow.
