Check Out These Hilarious Vegetable “Critters” at the Kentucky State Fair
Our visit to the Kentucky State Fair is something I look forward to every year. A whole day of entertainment, petting adorable animals, eating delicious food, and making friends with folks from all over the Bluegrass State.
After taking a selfie with Freddy Farm Bureau, one of the first things on our to-do list is to go to the West Hall and check out the agriculture exhibits. The honey, the seed art, the sunflowers, the fruits and veggies- and can we take a moment to give a shout-out to the tobacco room? Talk about a signature Kentucky scent!
Back to the fruits and veggies, though. The star of the show is always the great pumpkin! Along with the largest watermelon winner, this massive orange monster set a record this year. You can read more about Josh Monin's record-breaker here. It is pretty mind-blowing to see it in person!
We always love walking around to see the "Critters" category as well. This is where folks can really use their creativity with the produce they grow. Using art supplies, tomatoes, carrots, squash, etc are transformed into punny versions of historical figures and pop culture characters.

Love the bumblebee in the background of this next photo. I didn't notice it at first because I was so amazed at this blue ribbon winner. Alexander YAMilton! From the $10 bill to the feather pen, this is GREAT!

An internet icon has stolen everyone's hearts. Even though he isn't from Kentucky, he was a part of the fair thanks to a familiar-shaped sweet potato. It's Jimothy!
This is HILARIOUS. Andy "Beet"shear! "Let's ROOT for Kentucky," the sign says. How clever!
A super cute penguin family won first place in this age group. Are those zucchini you think?
This next one made me laugh out loud. MEET GEORGE SQUASHINGTON! Accompanied by Abraham Beancoln and little Jimmy Carter as a peanut in this "Hall of Veggiedents"
Here we have another George Squashington, but this time he is re-enacting "The Battle of Porktown" in the defeat of General Cornwallis.
I also took some pictures of some of the amazing seed and nut mosaics. The America 250 theme continues a bit...
And some beautiful wildlife. This takes some major talent and time!
