Kentucky, Indiana Residents Tell Us the Weirdest Jobs They’ve Ever Had
I don't think I had weird jobs in my youth, but I did have one that may have been out of the mainstream.
I Was Once a Chauffeur...Minus the Fancy Threads
I was a chauffeur for my mother's old friend, the late Bobbie Robertson. The speech therapist at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital (the former name for Owensboro Health Regional Hospital), Bobbie was also a lifelong rheumatoid arthritis patient. I took her where she needed to go, and that includes trips to doctors' appointments in Louisville.
A Big & Tall Clothing Associate
Several decades ago, Owensboro was home to a regionally-owned big & tall men's clothing store called Mr. Fashion Big & Tall. It was owned by the Siegel family in Evansville, where another store was also located. This is where I learned how to make the proper marks for clothing alteration. I also dressed the mannequins. Even today, if I see a necktie in a men's department and it seems mismatched, I'll change it. Old habits die hard.
A Census Taker
I guess that's what I was. I hated the job. I was part of a team that fanned out across Owensboro, knocking on doors and asking questions of residents who were mostly annoyed that I was there. Many of them declined to answer. It was summer. It was hot. It was on my nerves. Of course, it could have been a whole lot worse...
No thanks, no Chianti for me. Only weird jobs from folks on Facebook. And, man oh man, there are some odd ones out there. And fun, too. Take a look.
