How to Enter the 2024 Chicken Cook-Off in Whitesville, KY

Here's some news that'll have you shakin' your tail feathers. Later this month, Whitesville, Kentucky will be home to a massive Chicken Cook-Off and fundraising event.

Jessy Nash, one of the organizers, is hoping to recruit 40 cooking teams to compete. So far, those efforts are going exceptionally well. As of this story, there are 18 to 20 teams confirmed for the cook-off.

Here's how it works. Each participating team will cook six chickens on site at the event. The team will then choose one of the those chickens to be judged by the panel of 'experts'. The fee for teams to enter is $200. That fee will cover entry and the cost of your chickens.

While the proceeds from the event will ultimately benefit the Kentucky Firefighter's Association, teams do not have to belong to or represent fire service to compete.

The Kentucky Firefighter's Association was established back in 1919 to promote and foster the safety of firefighters around the Commonwealth. This year's annual KFA conference will actually be held in Owensboro August 3rd through the 6th. The annual conference is where new bills are proposed, discussed and potential laws are put into motion for career and volunteer fire departments around the state.

Jessy Nash says he's got the room to cook and loves raising money. So, Saturday, April 27th, The Whitesville Fire Department Chicken Cook-Off is going down and the KFA will benefit!

While Jessy and the team are still looking for teams to compete, they're also inviting you to attend. He says he's hoping for "a crowd of about 800 people and a good time!"
