Who the heck is Leroy Van Dyke?  I've been asking that question a lot lately.  Leroy's name has been in the country music news the last couple of weeks thanks to the success of "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line.  See, that song has spent a whopping 17 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and is threatening to reach the 19-week mark.  And, yes, that mark was held by a country singer named Leroy Van Dyke.  In fact, it was way back in 1962 that Leroy had a monster hit with a song called "Walk on By" and set a chart record that lasted for more than 50 years.  Check it out!

Yep!  That's Leroy Van Dyke.  Who knew, right?  Well, let me correct that.  Moon is very familiar with Leroy.  But I was born in 1971 and was oblivious.  Moon always says that I fail to realize that there was a actually a world with people living in it before I was born.  LOL!  And, he's right. In fact, I said that Leroy Van Dyke sounds like the name of the guy you'd sit next to at the Bingo hall . . . not a record-setting country music star.

Take a listen to this conversation Moon and I had with Debbie Tooley, another Leroy fan.   She called in to The WBKR Waking Crew last week to reminisce.

As it turns out, Leroy Van Dyke WAS the real deal.  And, much to my surprise, I was even familiar with one of his songs and just didn't realize it was ol' Leroy!  LOL!  Remember this?

I have to give it to Moon and Debbie (and Leroy).  It's been said that you can't teach an old dog new tricks and I suppose the opposite is true as well.  It's probably difficult to teach a new dog old tricks.  But this pup just met an old dog in the country music kennel and I like him . . . a lot.
