Chosen family. Friendsgiving. I am enamored of both of these relatively new terms which have entered our national lexicon, and they aren't going anywhere.

FRIENDSGIVING

Actually, I think these concepts were in place long before there was a name for them, and they mean so much to so many people. Not to diminish anyone's relationship with their biological families, but there's a reason "You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family" shows up on coffee mugs, t-shirts, and bumper stickers.

WINDY HOLLOW BISCUIT HOUSE FRIENDSGIVING

A popular "spin-off" restaurant in Owensboro will embrace Friendsgiving on Wednesday, November 23rd, by offering a mostly traditional Thanksgiving dinner to the community. Here's what we can expect from the Windy Hollow Biscuit House that day:

Join us for Friendsgiving Buffet Lunch from 11am - 2pm (or while supplies last). You won't eat alone - most seating will be community seating so you may eat with new friends.

Cost: PAY AS YOU CAN. There is no minimum or maximum!! After covering a few expenses, a portion of any remaining income will be donated to a local organization with the remainder to be divided among our hard-working staff.
The buffet will be feature mostly traditional Thanksgiving fare with a few unexpected items that will change through the course of the day. Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, mac & cheese, dressing, sweet potato casserole, veggies and other fun items plus pumpkin pie and chocolate cake for dessert!
No reservations required. Buffet will be available until food runs out. Seating will be mostly large community tables so that no one eats alone. Meet new friends, spread a little Thanksgiving cheer.

THANKSGIVING FARE FROM THE WINDY HOLLOW BISCUIT HOUSE

The Windy Hollow Biscuit House--an offshoot of the Windy Hollow Restaurant on Highway 81--opened in the spring of 2022 to immediate rousing success. The menu is a bit different from the original restaurant's menu, and that's mainly because it's open more often and serves more than just breakfast.

You know, in all my years of visiting Windy Hollow--from childhood into adulthood--I have never once considered what a Thanksgiving dinner would be like there. And now, just like everyone else, I won't have to.

What a special opportunity for those who may have nowhere to go on Thanksgiving Day, and, as the post says, what a great way to make new friends during a very special occasion.
