On June 6th, 2026, Windy Hollow Biscuit House will host a special buffet that will pay tribute to area veterans to commemorate D-Day and the "Invasion of Normandy by Allied Forces" on June 6, 1944. It will also honor Windy Hollow founders, Hal & Tom Miller, who dropped out of high school to join the Army to serve during WWII.

It’s important to honor our area veterans, not just with words, but through action. Whether you attend a parade, spend time with a veteran, or take time to learn about their service and sacrifice. The family at Windy Hollow Biscuit House is taking it a step further.

Honoring Veterans at the Table

Windy Hollow Biscuit House will host its 5th annual free D-Day Breakfast Buffet on June 6 from 7 am to 2 pm for all veterans and active-duty military. It’s not just breakfast, it’s a tradition built on family, history, and a deep respect for those who served.

No catch, just come in and enjoy a good breakfast!

A Tradition Rooted in Family

For Evelyn Miller, the owner of Windy Hollow, this day has always carried weight.

D-Day was always an important day in our house and to my father,” she shared. “As a child, I only knew they were dropped off on a beach, but of course, it was so much more.”

Her father, along with founders Hal and his twin brother Tom Miller, was among those who landed during the first 24 hours of D-Day. Hal came ashore at Utah Beach, while members of her father’s unit were thrown off course by the storm and landed on Omaha Beach, where they spent more than 24 hours clearing the beaches and caring for the fallen.

Why June 6 Still Matters

On June 6, 1944, more than 156,000 Allied troops landed across five beaches in Normandy. Those first hours were critical. The bravery shown that day helped secure a foothold that would eventually lead to the liberation of France and Western Europe.

It’s a moment in history that shaped generations, and one that continues to be felt by families like hers.

This annual breakfast is her way of honoring that legacy.

The Details

To honor her father, Hal, and Tom, the restaurant offers a free breakfast buffet to all veterans and active military on June 6 (and again on Pearl Harbor Day).

Breakfast is free. Drinks, tax, and tip are extra.

If you can make it, stop by, grab a plate, and spend a little time there. It’s a good way to start the day!

Supporting local veterans doesn’t have to be a big gesture. Sometimes it’s just showing up, sharing a meal, and taking a minute to say thank you.
